HIGHLIGHTS & HOME TRUTHS
>Get ready for some exercise! Torno is built on a hill, and there really are lots of stairs in the town and in the house.
>The two double bedrooms have separate entrances from the garden. If travelling with small children, they can sleep on the sofa bed in the living room.
>Traveling to and from Torno might be tricky without a car. Public transportation services run till around 10 pm.
NEIGHBOURHOOD
Torno might be small, yet it is still one of the most evocative destinations of Lake Como and one of the most visited towns on the western branch of the lake. Tourists and vacationers are attracted by the characteristic narrow streets and the charming villas – the 16th century Villa Pliniana, Villa Taverna with its magnificent gardens, and Villa Mia. Writer and poet Hermann Hesse was also impressed by the beauty of Torno and briefly wrote about its charm in his essay "Spaziergang am Comer See" ("A Walk Around Lake Como").
Nature lovers will enjoy the beautiful paths leading up to the mountain villages of Montepiatto and Piazzaga.
GETTING AROUND
For our guests' convenience, we suggest arriving by car.
Alternatively, you can travel by ferry or bus. From the pier, there are regular boat rides to Como and other nearby lakeside towns. Tickets can be bought at the pier or on the Navigazione Laghi website. There is also a bus service operating between Como and Bellagio (line C30) and between Como and Palanzo (line C31). The bus stop is located on the main road. Tickets can be obtained from the driver (cash only) or in bar/pasticceria “Cancellieri Silvio” in Torno. Please note that the buses don't run very often and services stop at around 8 pm! Taxi rides are available, but not easily attainable in the region.
From Como, it is convenient to travel to Milan and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno) by train.
The nearest airports are Milano Malpensa, Milano Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. It is possible to arrange a direct shuttle to and from the airport at an additional cost.

TIPS
>To travel and walk around Lake Como, especially in the little towns, comfortable shoes are a must.
>There are many public drinking-water fountains in the little towns, and the water is safe to drink unless stated otherwise. Tap water is also drinkable. You can carry your own refillable bottle!
>La Strada Regia is a nearby trekking route that connects Brunate (Como) to Bellagio. The whole route can be done in 2 or 3 days, but it is possible to do it in parts and walk from one town to the next, e.g., Torno to Blevio.
>In Italy, many shops (especially the little ones) and services are closed in the middle of the day, so be careful to plan your shopping accordingly.
>Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those who wish to dwell in the water, however, there are some options. In nearby Blevio, there is a small beach for swimming and wakeboarding. A short boat ride will take you to Cernobbio where the lakeside Lido has a swimming pool. Lido di Bellagio and pebbly San Giovanni beach will be waiting for those who wish to travel further and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio. Locals and visitors also enjoy traveling to Nesso where the bravest swimmers can jump into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall.
>Lake Como is located in a mountainous region. The surrounding pre-Alps might not seem very high, but the climate is nevertheless affected by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change quickly. Be particularly attentive to the weather when hiking, and bring some warm and waterproof clothes with you!
