NEIGHBORHOOD
Dolce is located in an area rich with bars and restaurants, near the Como San Giovanni train station. You can easily walk to the main tourist attractions, enjoy a stroll along the lake, and discover the numerous nearby restaurants and bars.
GETTING AROUND
For guests' convenience, we recommend arriving by car. However, the lack of private parking may require the use of nearby public parking facilities. From Como San Giovanni train station, it is easy to reach Milan and other destinations by train. Additionally, ferries to other lake towns depart from Como pier. Note: if traveling during high season, we advise being patient due to long queues at the ticket office (especially in Como city). Tickets can also be purchased online on the Navigazione Laghi website.
Unfortunately, most public transportation services stop before 10:00 PM, and ferries even earlier. Taxis are available but not easily found in the region.
The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. A direct shuttle to and from the airport can be arranged for an additional cost.
For further transportation questions, do not hesitate to contact us: we will be happy to help you and ensure you reach your preferred destination!
TIPS
We recommend dedicating a day to visiting the wonderful towns around the lake. Como city is the urban center of the area, but the towns are gems with splendid lakeside villas.
To move around and stroll along Lake Como, especially in small towns, comfortable shoes are necessary.
There are many public drinking fountains in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also potable. You can bring your refillable bottle!
If you are looking for a relatively easy hike in the area while still enjoying the mountain views, the Greenway del Lago di Como is an easy-to-follow trail connecting lake towns from Colonno to Griante and doesn't require too much climbing. A bus will take you to the starting point in Colonno.
The funicular takes you to Brunate. Numerous hiking trails, from easy to challenging, start from the village.
Look for traditional restaurants where you can taste local food, such as dishes based on fish from Lake Como.
In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services close midday, so be sure to plan your shopping accordingly.
Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those wishing to immerse themselves in the water, however, there are some options. Look for the Lido di Villa Olmo. There are also beaches in other towns. The Lido di Bellagio and the gravel beach of San Giovanni await those who want to travel and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio, located at the center of the two branches of Lake Como. Locals and visitors also love going to Nesso, where the bravest swimmers can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall.
Lake Como is in a mountainous region. The surrounding Prealps do not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by nearby mountains, and temperatures can change quickly. Pay particular attention to weather conditions during hikes and bring warm and waterproof clothing!
